Just What Is A Pawn Shop?
You see them in the various parts of town and you have been wondering just exactly what is a pawn shop, how do they work, and why are they becoming more common place? But you haven't asked. Well to answer your question, lets look at the history of pawn shops. Pawn shops date back to ancient times and are one of the earliest recorded lending institutions. During the late middle ages, the House of Lombard in Europe had a group of pawn shops. They even counted royalty, such as King Edward III of England, among their clientele during the 14th century. Queen Isabella of Spain pawned the crown jewels to finance Columbus' voyage to America.
The pawn industry came to America with the first settlers, and in the early parts of this century, pawnbroking was regarded as the main source of consumer credit. With the rise of large consumer credit institutions, such as finance corporations, savings and loan associations, and credit unions, the pawn shop is no longer the main source of consumer credit. But the pawn shop still plays a vital role in providing consumer credit.
The general public needs to borrow small sums of money that other sources are not willing to provide, and this resulted in the rise of popularity of pawn shops. What chance do you think you would have in securing a $300.00 or smaller loan from a financial institution for a 30 to 90 day period? The cost of the paper work alone prohibits them from making such loans on a regular basis.

Where Did the Symbol Originate?
The universal symbol of pawnbroking is three gold balls and is one of the most easily recognized in the world. The Medici family in Italy along with the Lombards in England were pawnbrokers in Europe. Legend has it that one of the Medicis in the employ of Emperor Charles The Great fought a giant and slew him with three sacks of rocks. The three balls or globes later became part of their family crest, and ultimately, the sign of pawnbroking.

How Does A Pawn Shop Work?
Herdez Jewelry & Pawn Shop offers the consumer a quick, convenient and confidential way to borrow money. A short term cash need can be met with no credit check or legal consequences if the loan is not repaid. Pawnbrokers lend money on items of value ranging from gold and diamond jewelry to musical instruments, stereos, televisions, firearms, tools, etc. These items maintain their value over a reasonable period of time and are easy to store, especially jewelry.
Typically, loans are small averaging between $70 and $100, although they can be as small as $5 or as high as several thousand dollars depending on the value of the collateral. When a customer pawns an item, terms of the loan are printed on a pawn ticket that is given to the customer. The ticket states the customers name, address, type of identification provided to the pawnbroker, a description of the individual, description of the item along with any serial numbers, amount lent, maturity date, interest rate and amount that must be paid to redeem the item. Most states regulate pawnbrokers interest rates and other charges, such as storage or insurance fees.
If a customer defaults on his loan, the collateral becomes the property of the pawn shop and is put up for sale after the loan is delinquent for a specific period of time, generally one to three months. On average, 70 to 80 percent of all loans are redeemed.

How to Purchase a Firearm from an Online Dealer
The process for purchasing a firearm online is quite simple and ensures that firearms do not get into the hands of under age and prohibited persons.
1) Contact the dealer that is showing the firearm you desire to ensure that it is still available. This can also be the time that the transaction terms can be made.
2) Locate someone in your area who has their Federal Firearms License (FFL). All gun dealers, and many gunsmiths, pawn shops and gun ranges, operate with an FFL and can assist you with your transaction.
3) Contact the local FFL holder and tell them you would like to transfer a firearm from the dealer that has it. Most FFL holders will perform this action for a nominal fee. If a dealer is unwilling to transfer a firearm to you, or if the dealer wants excessive fees, take your business elsewhere.
4) Your FFL holder will send a signed copy of their license to the dealer that has the firearm. They can send a signed copy of their license by mail or fax. Always include a note from the FFL stating your name and the item you have purchased.
5) Once the seller receives a copy of your local FFL’s license, and payment for the firearm, the firearm can be shipped to your local FFL holder.
6) Your local FFL holder will be responsible for performing your background check and adhering to any other state and local laws governing firearm sales transactions. If you are unsure about regulations in your state, please consult your local FFL. Example: some states only allow one handgun to be purchased in a 30 day period, and some firearms are not legal in some states.
Remember, a firearm can ONLY be shipped to someone who holds a Federal Firearm License.
